Netflix February 2019 Highlights

Hairspray (Released 2/1)

Okay some of you clearly were not raised on John Waters and it shows. This modern movie based on the hit musical is fun and addictive and omg I love Zac Efron. The stand out performance perhaps is given by Amanda Bynes as the nerdy Penny but really all of the characters shine. It is not only entertaining but inspiring and historical and fun for the whole family.

Russian Doll (Released 2/1)

This original series is a hilarious and yet bleak Groundhogs Day with a modern twist and a female centric cast. Natasha Lyonne stars as Nadia, a young woman who cannot seem to escape her fate of dying and reliving the same birthday party over and over. Created by Amy Poehler, this show is both trippy and addictive.

Velvet Buzzsaw

(Released 2/1)

This Netflix original movie is a satirical thriller about money, art, and taste. When the paintings of a now deceased artist are stolen and sold, unexplainable things happen to those who profit off the work. An all star cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalia Dyer, John Malkovich and Toni Collette help make this film so incredible, earning an official selection at Sundance.

Studio 54

(Released 2/16)

This documentary opens the infamous red ropes that guarded one of the most iconic clubs in history: Studio 54. In the 1970s, everyone who was anyone in New York City had to be seen at Studio 54. From Andy Warhol to Elizabeth Taylor, everyone was there. Decades later, people who experienced the real thing are speaking about all the crazy things you won’t be able to imagine.
