Reactions: Rosamund Pike On Golden Globes Perks — Free Coffee! — And How Her Second Nod Feels Different

About two yrs ago, I caught the internet rumour that Idris Elba was supposedly being ‘considered’ as a replacement for Craig. I became INCENSED. I am NOT a rascist; let’s get that out of the way right now; and it isn’t because I feel he’s ‘incapable’ of playing the role; quite the opposite. Idris definitely has paid his dues, and has the chops to do whatever he sets his mind to. Rather MY issue was with this ridiculous ‘treadmill’ the Bond-fans have been on, being force to ‘accept’ a ‘new Bond’ every other decade. MY idea was to have Idris play a DIFFERENT ‘double-o’. This was an idea that has festered quietly in the back of my mind, ever since seeing that famous (albeit ‘brief’) scene where ALL nine ‘Double-O’s were seated at a gathering in a large hall, towards the beginning of FRWL…and a few other times where the exploits of OTHER double-o’s were mentioned (most notably in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’, ‘Octopussy’) and obviously in ‘Goldeneye’ (with the on-screen animosity between Brosnan and Sean Bean) and even the ‘snarky’ comment Lazenby made: “This never happened to the OTHER guy !”. The reason I’m bringing all this up, is because it occurred to me that perhaps the best way to bring the Bond-franchise forward, is to build-upon it by making Bond spin-off’s in much the same way the Bourne movies led to a story with Aaron Cross. I think we (the fans) are ‘hungry’ for finding out what ELSE goes on ELSEWHERE, while Bond is off taking a vacation/sabbatical. Who WAS Alec Treveleyan ? what else did HE accomplish BEFORE going ‘rogue’ ? That’s what I’m talking about. Not ‘origin’ stories…we have enough of that with the ‘Gotham’ TV series and the X-men, and I’m weary of that. I just want more stories of what other double-o’s do, and whether it’s Idris Elba, or Michael Fassbender, or whoever else screen-tested for Bond and didn’t ‘make the cut’…at least give them a story, make the a ‘double-o’ and make a film about it. I KNOW it would sell tickets; especially if it eventually brings them all together, like the (inevitable) upcoming Jason Bourne/Aaron Cross feature.
